(Schaumburg, Illinois) October 30, 2007 -- State Representative Paul Froehlich of Schaumburg filed petitions for re-election on Monday with 2,608 signatures. That was more than the combined number of signatures from both of his opponents who filed. John W. Moynihan filed with 1,485, while Anita Forte-Scott had 1,060 (total: 2,545).
Froehlich submitted more than three times as many signatures as he had in previous campaigns when he ran as a Republican and was head of the local Republican organization as Township Committeeman. State law requires 500 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot for state representative.
“I’m honored that more than 2,600 residents were willing to sign petitions to put my name back on the ballot,” Froehlich said. That’s about 2.5 percent of the residents in the 56th district. Signers were Democrats, Independents and Republicans, Froehlich said.
“I expect 2008 to be the biggest election challenge of my career, so I wanted to kick off my re-election campaign with a big petition drive,” said Froehlich. “It’s a good sign when I generate more signatures than both opponents put together. I want to thank the voters as well as the volunteers who helped circulate my petitions.”
Candidates have until November 5th to submit petitions to qualify for the Feb. 5 primary ballot. ###
